Executive summary
A/ The population of respondents is basically identical to our last surveys. We have the same number of female and male respondents. More than two thirds are between 20 – 40 years of age, approxi-mately 20% are 41 years and older. Interestingly, 60% are currently employed but considering change for different reasons. The level of education is represented by 45% of secondary graduates, 40% have higher education, one quarter of all have a University degree.
B/ Our company constantly monitors the impact of the economic situation on jobseekers. Once again we can confirm that people are more willing to accept employment contracts for a definite period of time, of which 40% is due to the current economic crisis. The willingness to relocate for a job remains the same as in our last survey. More than 40% do not want to move. Our expectation was that this number may grow as the unemployment rate keeps growing.
C/ In this particular survey we focused on the reasons and criteria to choose a new employer.
We can confirm that the job content is the number one reason to accept the job offer, the financial reasons are at the second place (see table 8). The most important criteria when choosing a new em-ployer are: stable company and both the quality of the management and the strong communication channel that exist inside the company. The topic of communication is very sensitive in times of crisis and this survey certainly highlights this. Only after those criteria we can find the opportunity to grow and personal development and training.
We asked our respondents how they like to see their direct managers. In fact, this is something you might consider when interviewing candidates. If you want to attract a candidate, his/her manager should be seen as a just and fair manager as well as an expert in his/her field. Together with the ca-pability of being part a team player, these are the main aspects which jobseekers look for and which will influence their decision.
