Czech automotive industry set to face significant changes – how will the long-term impact of the global financial crisis affect the industry’s future?
11.11.2008 | Company: ?The threat of economic slowing in weaker demand for automobiles was noticeable even before the current drop in global financial markets. Problems in the automotive industry began in the United States, but soon affected markets in the United Kingdom, Spain and Germany. Drops in production volume and, in some instances, staff downsizing caused by weakened demand have been announced by a number of European car manufacturers (including Czech ones) in recent weeks. The crisis is impacting sales of luxury automobiles. On the other hand, the CZK/EUR exchange rate, greater competitiveness and the concentration of the Czech and Slovak markets have led to a decrease in small car prices. It is hard to estimate the overall medium- and long-term industry impact.
