Over the weekend, voters went to the polls to decide the winner of the second round of the Czech presidential election. The first round took place two weeks ago. Of the 8 candidates, Andrej Babiš a former Prime Minister and one of the richest Czech citizens, and Petr Pavel a former army general and leading NATO official, were sent to the final round with similar support of 35 %.
Only some 23 thousand votes separated Mr Pavel and Mr Babiš in the first round so it was going to be a close fight. Nevertheless, four unsuccessful candidates from the first round explicitly supported Mr Pavel and consequently his starting position for the second round was better than of Andrej Babiš.
