Proposed amendment to the Employment Act – Short-time working from the employer’s perspective

27.01.2021
Company: TaylorWessing e|n|w|c advokáti v.o.s.

New legislation on short-time working or reduced working hours (often referred to by its German name of Kurzarbeit) is currently passing through the Czech Chamber of Deputies and has reached the second reading stage.

Under the legislation, proposed by the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, the government would provide support to employers facing pandemic-related financial difficulties, as a result of which employees have to work reduced hours. The company would pay salaries only for the actual hours that employees worked. The government would cover salaries to a certain extent for the rest of the time (ie the days when employees are at home).
