NUK – 2015: Prague

Giovanni Acevedo was born in Medellin (Colombia) in April 1975. He began his formal artistic training at the Popular Art School in the city of Medellin during 1999 and 2003. He is also currently studying Art Education at the University Pontificia Bolivariana.

Giovanni primary mediums are painting and sculpture. He specifies his work upon the genres of Colombian Surrealism and Urban Art. His work and thoughts circulate about art in the urban space as a strategy for investigation into social, cultural and historical platforms through artistic practices. He also experiments with topics that involve the everyday, the imaginary; and the cultures, traditions and memories of any given territory.

His Urban Art projects have been centred on suburbs and streets that contain intensely harsh and chaotic narratives of Colombian history. His approach to these community projects has been constant in its aim to use the tools of graffiti, street art, paint and clay as a medium to rewrite history on community walls and streets through its people.

Among his many appearances in the Colombian and international art world, he has participated in the following public and private exhibitions and community art projects.

2015                     ‘Imaginary Prehispanic Gallery’ at The University of Pontificia Bolivariana

2014 and 2013Medellin Mural Projects’ – (Time Walkers)

2013                     ‘Project FAUN’ at The University of Michoacan Morelia in Mexico

2012                     ‘Cali Biennial Public Art and Murals’
